The Clark Family Legacy

Led by patriarch Dr. Joe L. Clark’s wisdom, the Clark family has made indelible contributions to the world, far beyond their New Jersey roots. Under Dr. Clark’s guidance, his children have leveraged their careers as world-class athletes and Olympians to represent their family and country with pride.

The world lost an icon in December 2020 when Dr. Clark passed away, but his legacy of serving the community and striving for excellence lives on through his family.

The Principled Principal

Dr. Joe L. Clark’s career in education lasted more than three decades, throughout which he inspired countless students. Serving first as an elementary school teacher, he soon found his calling as a Principal, transforming the once failing PS 6 Grammar School into the “Miracle on Carroll Street.” It wasn’t until his career was nearing its end that the world came to know Dr. Clark through Morgan Freeman’s portrayal of him in the 1989 film Lean On Me.

First Family of Track & Field

Having one Olympian in the family is rare, but having three Olympic athletes and an all-star coach in the same family and generation - that’s an honor only The Clarks can claim. Together, The Clarks have captured 48 combined U.S. national titles, and there has been a member of the family on the last seven U.S. Olympic Teams. While each is fueled by a competitive fire within, they’re also deeply committed to sharing their success with the next generation through programs including the Clark Family Running Camps & Clinics and 123 Win Seminars.

Members of the the Clark family regularly deliver motivational speeches, participate in panels and interviews, and attend international fundraisers and events. Now, The Clark Family Legacy Fund provides scholarships to underserved kids to expand their horizons and enable them to passionately pursue their dreams.
